Abstract
Introduction: One of the very important features of the obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the disturbed night sleep. Disordered nocturnal sleep results in daytime sleepiness and poor performance and contributes to cardiovascular consequences of OSA.
Materials and Methods: Observational study in a tertiary health care center.
Results: Majority of studied patients were males (83{55.3%)} and 1/3rd were from 41 to 70 years {110(73.3%)}. 110 (75%) patients were in obesity class 1(71) and overweight (39) group. Most of the patients had severe OSA {90(63.34%)} rather than mild {17(11.34%)} and moderate (35{24.34%}) OSA.
Discussion: The predominant affected patients were men in the middle age group and younger male patients were affected compared to the female patients. When AHI was plotted against age stratification, OSA severity tended to increase from third decade of life up to seventh decade of life, suggesting correlation between age and OSA severity.
Conclusion: All middle age patients with obesity individual should be screen for OSA and create awareness in obese individual for apnea hypopnea disease symptoms.
