Abstract

Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA) is an immunologically mediated disease characterized by hypersensitivity to colonization by Aspergillus fumigatus. Pyopneumothorax and bronchopleural fistula are infrequent complications in patients with ABPA. In this case, our patient, who was diagnosed with ABPA, developed pyopneumothorax during the initiation of treatment. The proposed explanation for this condition is that mucus impaction in the bronchus led to colonization by the infection, which subsequently caused rupture of the lesion, resulting in pyopneumothorax.
